The Work

Not unlike the necessity of adapting to change or otherwise perish, artistic creation is essential to my survival. The vital freedom to tear through reality and create a world of my own. A world of open expression, without judgement. A safe place to play and connect.

I can become quite restless creatively. I like to find new and exciting ways to challenge myself in attempting to manifest an idea. Lessons learned through experimenting with new techniques and materials. Growing towards more possibilities. Both within myself and in my work.

Up-cycling or re-purposing authentic vintage jewelry is one of my favorite things in which to immerse myself. I become obsessive about building jewelry with really cool, and different eras and stories. I LOVE creating fun and interesting pieces from discarded or unloved (or even previously loved that just needs a new home) quality authentic vintage items into something interesting, fun, bold (or subtle)., with a bit of history in every single piece built. I love the entire process of my builds. From hunting, to then finding vintage glory in the most unexpected places, to the restoration and repair, process, the time it takes to find the perfect vintage chain to go with a vintage pendant, gauging the right length of chain that I’ll need to build for that particular piece. Some builds take patience to find the right piece or pieces to really tie all the elements together that will bring that build to life. I the immense joy I get when a building challenge arises and I finally figure out how to do it without classic training, yet to be learned techniques, and limited materials. Then actually being able to pull it off, and well? Man, I love that feeling. I always learn something with each build. Its very rewarding.

I’m also an Abstract Painter and Multimedia artist, with vintage jewelry building being my main medium.

My absolute favorite painting method and style is using the pour method. Both with and without using Silicone in the paint. It's a very therapeutic process with crazy beautiful and surprising results.

As a Mutltimedia artist, I love seeing what I can pull off with limited resources as a personal creative challenge. Using old catalogs, comic books, magazines, periodicals, I exacto knife out interesting looking images, have some fun creating a super colorful background using spray paint, then adhering the cutouts, relative to what's happening color wise in the background, I can have some real fun trying to incorporate the image using the background colors and placement of the image based on the theme, image colors and body positions, until I figure out balance and the result being totally complimentary and so fun.
